Testing my new strobe, the Nikon SB-600. Just a little experiment with insence :)

Did this with a friend, we used his strobe as well to light things even. Both flashes at half power, one on the left and one on the right. We triggered them wirelessly using my pop-up flash, to make sure they went off simultaniously.

I think the result is ok, though a proper black background would be a lot easier. Oh, and my room still stinks :P

edit: scrapped!

I captured smoke from insence with my camera, and then opened it in photoshop and colorized the image to make it look more interesting. You can read the whole "workflow" right here [link] Though I didn't do this exactly like he did, I used two strobes instead of one desk lamp (you'll need a lot more light than that ;)).

Wow! This is SO amazing!
First I thought it was some kind of brush in PS or something...
But now that you say that it's a photo the whole picture is so much more interesting =)
How did you do to focus on the smoke? Wasn't it pretty hard?
:iconbazz38:
Haha, thanks! I can imagine it looks like a brush at first sight, but it is indeed a real, genuine photo ;) I have to say the colors are fake though, that part is done in PS. And as you said, keeping the smoke in focus was the hardest part (once we figured out the "perfect" lighting), because the smoke constantly moved and the camera was pretty close to it. As you can see I used a somewhat higher aperture (8 in this shot if i'm right), to make sure the DOF was large enough... To check my focus i first focussed on a pencil right above the smoke, and we where shooting tethered in Aperture, so i could see the result instantly on "the big screen" :)

Anyway, sorry for the long story and thanks for the comment & fav :)
